Rajiv Mathur takes charge of Intelligence Bureau

New Delhi, Jan 1 (IANS) Rajiv Mathur, a 1972 batch Indian Police Services officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, Thursday took over as the chief of India's Intelligence Bureau (IB) from P.C. Haldar, who retired Dec 31.

Mathur, who was serving as the special director of the IB, has served the agency for nearly three decades, including 15 years in Washington.

Mathur, 59, is expected to carry out function as the intelligence chief for the next two years. His name was cleared by the appointments' committee of cabinet headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in early December.
