Mumbai, Dec 18 (IANS) Indian equities markets rose smartly during Thursday afternoon trade with a key index touching an intra-day high of 10,015.18 points.
The 30-share sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was ruling at 10,009.24 points around 2:10 p.m., a rise of 3.03 percent or 293.95 points over its close Wednesday at 9,715.29 points.
The broader-based 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was ruling at 3,028.00 points, rising 2.5 percent over its previous close .
Broader market indices were, however, a bit slower to rise with the midcap index trading 1.39 percent higher, while the smallcap index rose only 0.43 percent over its previous close.
Trading on Asian markets was a bit sluggish, with the Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, rising to rule at 0.64 percent higher than its previous close.
The Hang Seng, a key index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange did no better and rose by a mere 0.04 percent over its previous close.
