Chandigarh residents out on heritage walk

Chandigarh, Oct 7 (IANS) As part of the ongoing heritage festival in the city beautiful, a walk was organised here Tuesday morning.

Around 150 school students, 100 volunteers and many top officials of the administration took part in the heritage walk, flagged off by the city's administrator S.F. Rodrigues.

The walk started from the Open Hand Monument and concluded at Botanical Garden, covering a distance of around one and a half km. The walk was organised by the UT administration in collaboration with Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).

The Chandigarh Heritage Festival started Oct 6 on the birth anniversary of Le Corbusier, with the inauguration of the Le Corbusier Centre here.

Heritage tree tour was also organised Tuesday for 30 school children by the tourism department and a non-government organisation Yuvsatta based here. The tour, that was of one and a half hour duration, commenced from Indira Holiday Home Sector-24 and finished at Sukhna Lake.

'Our objective is to educate the young students about the importance of protecting our tree wealth. It was an educational-cum-fun trip for the students,' coordinator of Yuvsatta Parmod Sharma told IANS.
