New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora Wednesday reiterated that any decision to impose a windfall profit tax - as demanded by the government's new ally, Samajwadi Party - was not under his ministry's purview.
Deora told reporters that he was open to any suggestions from supporters of the government for the development of the oil and gas industry.
'I cannot comment on this matter (of windfall tax) as it does not concern my ministry,' the minister replied to a query.
The windfall tax was earlier demanded by the Left parties, and is now sought by the Samajwadi Party, on profits private oil companies have earned due to increasing oil prices.
