Gony's mother accuses him of giving death threat

1 July, 2008 21:03:01

Chandigarh, July 2 (IANS) Cricketer Manpreet Gony, who made a mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, is in news for wrong reasons. The fast bowler's mother says he has been threatening her life.

'On his return from the (Indian cricket team's) Bangladesh tour I was expecting that things will settle down and my son will return to our home. He came to us but only to take away the belongings from the house,' Mahinder Kaur, Gony's mother, told IANS Tuesday.

'When I tried to stop him, he said that he has enough money to send me and my family to jail by bribing police or even to give to some contract killer to kill us,' she said.

'It happened around 20 days back. At that time I was alone in the house when Manpreet and his wife came with 20-25 people. They threatened me and Jassi, cousin of Manpreet's wife, even raised a stick to hit me,' added Mahinder Kaur.

Gony lives separately from his parents in Mohali town of Punjab since he married two years ago.

Mahinder Kaur, a social worker and activist with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for 15 years, said she was planning to take stern action against her son if he behaved like this again.

'He even called me and gave threats to kill my family. Now I am not going to tolerate atrocities of my son and his wife anymore. I will file a complaint and seek police help if he tries to threaten us again,' she said.

Gony, currently in Pakistan as part of the Indian team and playing in the Asia Cup tournament, and his wife could not be reached for comment.
